10:30 PM Weather Update

[caption id="attachment_8687" align="aligncenter" width="595"]width=”595″ height=”330″ /> Radar at 10:25 PM[/caption]

Widespread shower and thunderstorm activity continues across the northern half of North Texas, generally along and north of Interstate 20/30. These thunderstorms continue to produce quite a lightning show, but no severe weather has occurred in the past hour. That said, the severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 1 AM, but it may be cancelled early. This activity will likely continue for several more hours well into the overnight hours.

Strong thunderstorms will continue to be a nuisance overnight with lots of lightning and winds over 40 MPH. We can’t rule out an isolated severe thunderstorm with winds closer to 60 MPH, but the threat is continuing to decrease as our air mass stabilizes.

9:30 PM Severe Weather Update

Radar at 9:26 PM

As of 9:30 PM, no severe weather warnings are in effect across Texas. That said, we have a fairly large area of shower and thunderstorm activity in progress along a stationary front. This activity is occurring from Paris, Texas, westward into the D/FW Metroplex, and than even further west/northwest into parts of West Texas. Most activity is moving to the east around 20 MPH. I can’t rule out additional severe thunderstorms, but the likelihood of those will decrease as we continue through the evening hours.

Here in the D/FW Metroplex, the first thunderstorm activity is beginning to push through the region. We have a strong thunderstorm located over the mid-cities from D/FW Airport south to Interstate 20 in Arlington. This thunderstorm is moving east/southeast and is producing plenty of lightning. In fact, it sounds like we just had a house struck by lightning in Euless. The primary threat from this storm and additional storms this evening will be frequent cloud to ground lightning, wind gusts up to 50 MPH, and the possibility of small hail. Also, localized street flooding may occur, so be careful on the highways!
