Severe Storm Risk in West Texas and Panhandle

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a standard risk of severe weather for portions of eastern New Mexico, the western half of the Texas Panhandle, and portions of West Texas. Locations including Lubbock, Plainview, Amarillo, Dumas, and Dalhart (just to name a few) are included in the primary severe weather risk. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to begin developing by 5 PM with large hail likely with the strongest storms. As the evening progresses, the threat for damaging winds will increase, especially as storms begin to congeal into a line or complex. While we cannot rule out a brief tornado, the threat is low. Storms will begin to decrease in intensity after 11 PM.
