Cold Front + Rain for Texas!!!

It’s really going to happen!  We just have to get through this week of more 100 degree temps and we’ll be in the home stretch!

I’ve posted several graphics below which will provide a little more detail as to the estimated location of the cold front next weekend.  The timing of the front is still just an estimate based on the latest mid-range computer models, but this still should provide a fair prognostication of what to expect.

For the cellphone readers…here’s a brief summary of what to expect.  There’s actually two cold fronts…one which is predicted to get as far as the northern Texas panhandle as early as Wednesday, then stall out.   The second front is predicted to blow south out of Alberta Canada and barrel through northern parts of Texas Friday night/early Saturday.   Central regions of the state should experience its passage during the afternoon hours on Saturday.  The Gulf Coast region should see its passage Saturday night/pre-dawn on Sunday.  And regions in far South Texas should feel it by Sunday morning.  Most areas of Texas will experience at least some rainfall as the front passes through.  For those on computers, read on and check out the graphics.

Below, we have the estimated surface temperature and wind direction as of 7am next Saturday morning.  The temp legend is at the bottom of each graphic.  The wind barbs show the estimated wind direction.  Hint…if the “flag” is at the top of the barb, the wind is coming from a northerly direction.   As you can see, the panhandle and most of north Texas will have experienced frontal passage by 7am.

Below we have the estimated position of the cold front as of 7pm next Saturday.  As you can see, a great majority of the state has seen a change in wind direction from south to north indicating that the front has passed through.

Below, we now have the estimated frontal position as of 7am Sunday morning.  Not only have a majority of the surface winds switched over to a northerly direction, the temps have dropped as well…into the 50′s and 60′s in many areas in north and central parts of the state…and low to mid 70′s in the southern part of the state.  Even looks like some 40′s in a small section of the panhandle!

BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE!   We still have to talk about RAIN chances!

The graphic below provides estimated areas that could potentially be experiencing rain at 7am next Saturday morning.
