This is the latest rainfall total forecast through 7 PM Saturday. Rainfall totals continue to rise as weather models continue to suggest rain will continue into Friday and even parts of Saturday across Texas. Widespread rainfall totals over 1 inch can be expected across most of Texas with some locations receiving over 3 inches of rain by the Saturday. Here is the forecast rainfall totals from the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center.
Flash flooding is not expected to be a major concern for most of the rain event as recent dry weather will allow for several inches of rain to fall before we begin dealing with saturated ground. Metropolitan areas that deal with very heavy rain in a short period of time could have street flooding as the infrastructure will promote runoff. This graphic shows how much rain it take to fall in six hours to cause flash flooding. We should not have that much rain, at least based on the current forecast.
