2:45 PM Severe Weather Update

1935

The Storm Prediction Center has placed a severe weather risk for portions of West Texas, northern portions of the Hill Country, into western North Texas. This risk includes Hereford, Lubbock, Big Spring, San Angelo, Abilene, and Stephenville. Thunderstorms are already underway in western North Texas. These storms are already strong to severe with large hail and gusty winds. Additional storms are forming closer to I-35. A few of these storms could become strong. Further west, storms will develop in eastern New Mexico later this afternoon. This storm will move east into West Texas during the early evening with a risk of large hail and damaging winds.

Wind shear isn’t impressive, but we can’t rule out a brief tornado as there are several outflow boundaries in place today. Storms will move in an east/southeast motion today. Severe Thunderstorm Watches may be issued soon.

Afternoon Update: Complex of Storms Still Going

20130619-131322.jpg

We have been tracking a complex of storms, or MSC, coming out of the Texas Panhandle heading southeast. The storms have had a history of producing flooding rain, hail, and lots of lightning. The complex will weaken some but more storms are already developing out ahead of it, around the DFW area. Severe weather threats today will be hail, gusty winds, and localized flooding. It will be isolated so not everyone will see bad weather, but hopefully our get some much needed rain!

There is a boundary running southeast ahead of the complex into east Texas. This will be the area that sees the best chance for storms thru tonight. By the way, another complex could from overnight and affect the Texas Panhandle by Thursday morning. Stay tuned!
