Panhandle Blizzard may Bust Records today

Snowfall amounts in the panhandle may bust some all-time records by the end of the day.  The previous record at Amarillo for 24-hour snowfall is 20.6 inches from back on March 25-26, 1934.   The all-time STATE record for snowfall is 25 inches recorded in Follett which was set March 28, 2009.  Over 13 inches of snow has now been recorded at the NWS office in Amarillo and they also have snow drifts up to around 4 ft. deep.  I-40 and I-27 are completely shut down at this point, and the plows have ceased operations for now until conditions improve.

Here’s another clip from NWS Amarillo after dawn of the ongoing blizzard conditions.
