Dangerous Heat Across East TX Today

Dangerous heat conditions are in place across portions of far eastern Texas into Louisiana today through tomorrow. Heat Advisories for areas east of the I-35 corridor, including the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area will remain in place through Sunday with heat index values reaching upwards of 105 to 108. A few counties close to the TX/LA border will see heat index values topping 110 or higher. Needless to say, it will be best to hunker down and stay indoors with a nice cold beverage during the next couple of afternoons if at all possible. Deep south Texas in and around Brownsville also has Heat Advisories in place through this evening.

Highs today across the state will range from the upper 90s to around 102 which, on average, is about 3 to 5 degrees above normal for this time of the year. Unfortunately, this heat trend will continue through the weekend and into next week. Long range forecast models have the ridge weakening next weekend which may take a small bite out of the excessive highs next weekend, but that’s still way too far out to instill any confidence.

Scattered pop-up showers are likely today across far eastern Texas and along the coastal seabreeze this afternoon and evening. Elsewhere, the strong ridge of high pressure and its rain deflecting force field will continue to keep conditions dry today and into next week as well.
