Scattered Thunderstorm Chances This Weekend

Our summer-time weather pattern will continue through… well, probably September. However, we are going to have a bit of change for the next few days. The typical summer time high pressure will be located west/northwest of Texas for the next few days. Its influence won’t be completely erased, but it will be far enough away that we’ll have scattered thunderstorm chances across the eastern half of Texas today and all of Texas on Sunday.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon across Southeast Texas, East Texas, back west into Central Texas. Isolated storms will be possible across the Borderland, Trans-Pecos, South-Central Texas, into Texoma and Northeast Texas. The strongest storms will produce copious amounts of lightning, localized damaging wind gusts, and very heavy rainfall. Storms will tend to move slowly to the west. It won’t be a washout, but don’t be surprised if you get a quick inch or two of rain if you end up under one of these storms. Thunderstorm coverage will decrease after sunset with isolated activity remaining into the late evening hours.

Scattered to numerous storms are expected on Sunday across South-Central Texas and Southeast Texas. Hazards from the strongest storms will be identical to those from today. Isolated to widely scattered storms will be possible across the rest of Texas tomorrow as well, which is different from today. Again, not expecting a total washout tomorrow. Although it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have an indoor backup plan for tomorrow if you’re in South and Southeast Texas as there will be quite a number of storms.

Monday will be another day of rain chances, although this time we’ll see them highest across the southeastern half of Texas. Our summer high temperature will start to move a bit closer to Texas, so rain chances across the northwestern half of Texas will be quite low.
