New Long-Duration Tornado Watch for Brazos Valley & Southeast Texas

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a new long-duration tornado watch. This watch goes through 1 PM Saturday and includes much of Southeast Texas and the Brazos Valley. Lake Jackson, Texas City, Port Arthur, Dayton, Houston, Wharton, Conroe, Brenham, and Bryan/College Station are included in this new watch. We note that this watch does extend further north than the previous watch – as conditions will become favorable for tornadoes farther north with time this morning. These regions are located in the northeast quadrant of Major Hurricane Harvey. The northeast quadrant is often a favored location for tornadoes due to strong wind shear and turning with height. This has been proven several times this evening and this morning with multiple tornado warnings in Southeast Texas and at least two confirmed tornadoes. Most tornadoes produced by tropical systems are brief and weak – but they will ruin your day in a hurry.
