A historical flash flood event is underway in the Houston Metro this morning where several creeks have exceeded their Allison-level flooding. Widespread heavy rainfall of 2 to 5 inches per hour will continue across parts of Galveston, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Harris counties through at least 2 to 3 AM – perhaps longer. Jeff Lindner reports South Houston has received 13.48 inches of rain in the last 3 hours. Numerous homes are likely flooding near some creeks that are experiencing major flooding (see the Harris Flood Control District or our Twitter account for further info). If flood waters approach or enter your home be prepared to Go up! If that means getting on a roof of your house, do it. If you elect to go into your attic please take an axe or chain saw in the event water continues to rise and you need to cut your way to the roof. Emergency crews are strained with numerous water rescue calls.

The National Weather Service in League City has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Western Galveston County in southeastern Texas…
Eastern Fort Bend County in southeastern Texas…
Northeastern Brazoria County in southeastern Texas…
Central Harris County in southeastern Texas…

* Until 615 AM CDT Sunday.

* At 1213 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain over these areas at 2 to 5 inches
per hour. Flooding is already widespread in these areas. The storms
training from south to north across the area and are expected to
continue to redevelop along the length of the rainband. Many roadways
are impassable and high water rescues are ongoing.

This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL. IF FLOODING
THREATENS YOU GO UP IF POSSIBLE. THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS
SITUATION.
